USA: what is specific to the country
- Dogs: CDC Dog Import Form for each dog (free, online); at least 6 months old; microchip; healthy. UK dogs (low-risk) need no rabies certificate.
- Dogs that have been in a CDC high-risk country (including UAE and Turkey) in the last 6 months need extra steps: foreign-vaccinated dogs need a titer test or 28-day quarantine and must arrive at an airport with a CDC-registered animal care facility with a reservation.
- Cats: must appear healthy; no federal rabies certificate. Hawaii and Guam have local quarantine.
- States can have their own rules. USDA has no health requirement for cats.
Returning from USA to the UK
- GB pet health certificate (Part 2 listed) signed by an official vet, endorsed by USDA if the vet is not an official vet; within 10 days of arrival.
- Dogs: tapeworm treatment 24-120 hours before arrival. Declaration. Approved route; originals; electronic signatures not accepted except USDA-conditional.
