Rules change. Entry rules for pets are set by each country and can change at short notice. This page was checked on 20 October 2026. Charter-A confirms the rules for your exact route and dates when you book, and you should always check the official source linked on the page.
What applies
- A new AHC is still needed for every trip to the EU (valid 10 days for entry; day 1 is the issue date).
- Dogs: tapeworm treatment is a GB re-entry rule too. If you are away less than 24 hours, GOV.UK says the dog must be treated by a vet BEFORE you go. If you return within 5 days you may also treat before you go.
- You must wait 24 hours after the treatment before re-entering Great Britain, and re-enter within 120 hours of it. In practice a same-day trip means treating the dog the day before (derived from the rule).
- Dogs to Finland, Ireland, Malta, Norway or Northern Ireland also need treatment 24-120 hours before entering that country.
- Check the opening hours of the destination's pet checking point (for example Lisbon closed 00:00-06:00, Porto 23:00-07:00).
Coming back to the UK
- Same document as the outbound trip if it is still valid (AHC: 6 months from issue and rabies cover valid).
- Tapeworm record must show the product, date AND time. If the timing does not fit the windows, the dog needs another treatment abroad.
- Charter carrier and arrival airport must be on the APHA list.
Good to know
Treat the dog again within 28 days of returning (GOV.UK advice).
Flying on a private charter means your pet stays with you in the cabin. We plan the arrival airport around the checks your route needs. See how it works or ask us for a quote.
